Does the Full Over Full Bunk Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring full size mattresses (also known as double size mattresses). For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Full Over Full Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed anywhere around the bunk bed. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your Full Over Full Bunk Bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. For $35, we can build a ladder that only extends 6” from the bed frame. You can request these custom ladder options in the Notes section during checkout.What are the dimensions of the staircase?

We purchased these bunks for a small vacation home- wanting to maximize space for our young adult children and friends. Frances Lofts and Bunks was by far, the best option to allow for maximum weight capacity, solid with a sleek, clean design I was looking for. Living in Canada, this was an international purchase with a hefty price tag following exchange and shipping....so, I was very concerned about the final product. We had a bit of a glitch with delivery that FL&B was quick and willing to manage- so thankful for Jeffie- she is just amazing! I'm a 49 yr old mom with decent mechanical reasoning and was able to build these bunks on my own. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THAT!! The process would be very easy with two people. Although the instructions advised not to use a power drill, I did- carefully. There are a lot of heavy bolts that would take forever to twist in manually. I found the directions very difficult to read- the print was very small and they'd been packed with the hardware which smudged the ink a bit. However, following the online instructional video was wonderful-- they take you through the building process step by step! These bunks are so sturdy. Although there is a bit of wiggle when climbing to the top bunk- there is no safety concerns at all. They are SOLID! Excellent framework and design. If you're looking for a bunk you can trust anyone to sleep on - you will not be disappointed in these- they are 110% worth the investment!! Thank you FL&B!!

An amazing bunk bed! Love because of the weight limit it holds on each bed. I always I had a fear that the top bunk would fall. Unfortunately, the top bunk does squeak after a couple of months of use. You also need a lot of people to help at least 3-4. Not sure how some people did it by themselves because this thing is so HEAVY to set up, even to the point that when setting up it broke my baseboard. Also, this thing will not budge if you have to move it, I’ve dropped some stuff and have to pull my mattress to get the item in between the wooden boards. Choose your battles because it does save a lot of room since I do share a room.

I began a relationship with someone in another state who had two teens that would need a place to stay once their mom moved in with me. Looking at the options to maximize the space in my house a bunk bed seemed to be the logical choice. After doing research into bunk beds my concern was safety with weight capacity and durability since these were teens and not little kids. Most of the bunk beds I found didn't satisfy my concerns and struck me as geared for small children and wouldn't fulfill the need for teens and their weight for everyday use safely. I found Francis Lofts & Bunks and was impressed with the quality and safety it would offer. The only concern I had was the price, but I off set that with my own logic of the safety durability and the fact that it could serve as a long-term bed in the guest room for anyone including adults. The size options were also impressive and I was able to provide two full sized beds in the space of one, neither teen would be robbed of room on their bed and they both enjoyed times of surfing their cell phones or playing on their laptops. Utilizing the bookshelf headboard option, I was able to run their charging cables and LED puck lights for their individual needs and they could store their devices where they enjoyed using them. For the bottom bunk I took advantage of the curtain option and it was used more often than I thought it would be for the reason of creating a more divided personal space for them to separate when desired. They also loved the steps rather than the ladder option due to the comfort on their feet instead of having the rungs of a ladder plus took full advantage of the storage cubbies that it provided. As a caveat I would also like to add that the assembly of these bunk beds was simple and easy to do with two people where I have struggled with the complexity and difficulty of other bunk beds in the past. Thank you Francis Lofts & Bunks for creating such a quality functional product.
