When planning out a guest room for your second home, whether it be a vacation, lake, or beach house, you’ll want to make sure you are maximizing the space as much as possible. As is the case with a lot of second homes, you’re probably dealing with a smaller space than you’re used to, but potentially many more people (don’t vacation homes have a funny way of drawing a crowd?) and making the most of what you have is key. The best way to capitalize on your space without adding any additional square footage is with bunk beds. There’s a reason why bunk beds are a staple at lake houses and beach homes alike. Not only are they a creative way to style a room, but they also solve any space issues you may have and will allow you to accommodate more guests and family members without sacrificing their comfort. If you’re looking to maximize your space in your guest room, here are a few bed ideas to entertain.

Adult Bunk Beds

It used to be that bunk beds were something you used as a child and didn’t think about again as an adult. But as we know here at Francis Lofts & Bunks, times are changing and adult bunk beds are a creative and fashionable way to add space to a room. With unparalleled strength, you can choose the bed that best fits your needs. Sizes vary from a Twin to a King with customization options aplenty. Don’t worry- these beds aren’t just made for kids. They are durable enough to hold up to 2,000 pounds, so you won’t have to worry about size being an issue. If you’re worried about the safety of the bunk’s ladder, you can also opt for a staircase instead. When you’re trying to make the most out of a small guest room, these bunk beds will answer all of your space-saving prayers.

Another way you can capitalize on this space is by utilizing the area under your single bunk bed as a closet space or by adding a bookshelf or chest of drawers. This will give you and your guests more room to store belongings. Our bunk staircases also double as cubbies, giving you even more storage options.

Trundle Bed

Open Trundle

Take your space maximization up a notch with the addition of a trundle bed. This will give the allusion of a bigger space during the day, and at night will roll out easily to sleep one more. This is a great space-saving option, because you aren’t adding any additional furniture to an already space-limited room. Our trundle beds are built just as sturdy as our bunk beds, and won’t move once someone lays down on them. You can add a trundle as an accessory to any of our standard bunk beds.

Loft Bed

Designer Loft

A great way to maximize your space and allow for a joint work and sleep space is with a loft bed. Many times in a second home you only have one extra room that can be used as either an office space or as a guest room. In order to not have to sacrifice one for the other, we suggest installing one of our loft beds. By opting for a loft bed, you’re capitalizing on your living space and increasing the functionality of the room. By creating an elevated sleeping space, you will be able to utilize the area underneath your bed to create a workspace or a quaint lounge space.

Depending on the size of your bed and your ceilings, one of our loft beds will give you between 50.5-63 inches below them, allowing you to put a desk beneath. In fact, due to popular demand, we now offer a desk accessory that can be added to any loft bed. Outfit the desk with your laptop and a small file cabinet or drawer set to give you a makeshift office.

You can also use the area underneath as a seating/lounging area if you don’t have much need for a workspace. This works especially well for teenagers as it gives them a much-needed lounging area. Outfit the lounge area with a small couch or floor cushions and mount a television on the wall to create a relaxing space for your guests or family.

As you can see, there are plenty of options to take your guest room to the next level and accommodate more people into a small space. Whether you’re leaning towards outfitting the room with a standard bunk bed, or want to give a loft bed or trundle bed a try, this is your chance to get innovative with your decorating!
