Frequently Asked Questions
Products
-
What materials are used to construct the beds?
We use high quality aluminum sourced from the State of Georgia. This strong metal makes for a very sturdy piece of furniture, but the materials are also lightweight enough that the bed can easily be moved as much as necessary after it’s assembled.
-
What are the dimensions of the beds?
The specific dimensions for each bed can be found on their individual product pages. You can also get general size information for our loft and bunk beds from our brochure.
-
Can you build beds that are longer and/or higher than the standard dimensions listed on the website?
Yes! We can build beds to virtually any size for an additional customization fee. Contact us to discuss options and pricing.
-
What is a custom bed?
A “custom bed” is any bed that isn’t built to the one of the sizes available on our website. We charge an extra fee for custom beds based on the size specifications you request. All custom beds are non-refundable. Please note: If you order a bed with a trundle, it is considered a custom bed. We usually have to build these beds to a custom height to accommodate the accessory.
-
How much do the beds weigh after they’ve been assembled?
Once assembled, our beds weigh approximately 300 lb. The exact weight varies based on the type of bed, its size, and the addition of accessories.
-
What is the weight capacity of the beds?
Our beds have been stress-tested by an independent third-party organization and confirmed to be able to hold up to 2,000 lb per sleeping platform. Feel free to contact us if you’re interested in more information about these stress tests.
-
Are these beds easy to take apart if they need to be moved?
Yes. Our beds are designed to be easy to disassemble and reassemble. The high-quality materials won’t lose integrity, no matter how many times they’re rebuilt. The lightweight aluminum is also very easy to move. Just make sure to keep track of your hardware!
-
What type of finish do you use?
An enamel-based paint is baked onto the aluminum during the extrusion process, giving the bed a seamless and attractive finish that won’t wear off over time.
-
Where can the ladder be placed on the bed?
The ladders are functional anywhere around the bed, including on sides or ends that have guard rails attached. The only exception is for mixed-size bunk beds, in which case, the ladder can only be attached to one of the two ends of the bed.
-
What is the clearance of the ladder?
Here are the clearance dimensions from the edge of the bed to the furthest point of the ladder.
Standard Size:
8’ ceiling - 19-½”
9’ ceiling - 20”
10’ ceiling - 21”6 Degree (must be requested in the notes section during checkout):
8’ ceiling - 12-½”
9’ ceiling - 13”
10’ ceiling - 14-½” -
Is there an option to get a straight ladder?
We cannot offer a totally straight ladder option, but we do make a 1.5 degree ladder for tighter spaces that only sticks out 6” from the bed frame.
-
Are the x-braces required on the loft beds?
Yes. The x-braces are what give the beds their stability and make them safe for adult use.
-
Can I order a loft bed with the x-braces on the two long sides and just one short side of the frame?
Yes. As long as the x-braces are attached to three sides of the bed, the safety and stability won’t be affected. Please make sure to specify this request in the Notes section when you are checking out.
-
Can I get a shorter side rail that doesn't run the entire length of the bed?
Yes. If you plan on putting your ladder or staircase on the “long side” of the bed frame and would like a half-sized side rail to accommodate easier access to the loft or top bunk, we can make one for an additional $65 customization fee. Click here to see an example.
-
Is there a place where I can see an assembled bed in person?
We only sell our products online. At this time, we do not have a showroom to display our assembled beds.
Mattresses
-
Do the beds require a special type of mattress?
No. You can use most commercially available innerspring mattresses. If you want to use a memory foam mattress, you will need to add a solid surface to support it. Otherwise, your mattress start sinking between the wooden slats. We can include a 1/8” thick masonite board with your order upon request. The cost for this is $95 for one board, $165 for two, or $260 for three.
Another option for a memory foam mattress is to order your bed with extra slats. We can provide extra slats with less than 3” of space between them for $95 (per sleeping platform). Please request in the notes at checkout.
-
How are mattresses supported on the beds?
Mattresses are supported by incredibly durable 2x4 and 2x8 wooden slats. This is ideal for most innerspring mattresses. Many memory foam mattresses require a solid surface. If you plan on using a memory foam mattress, we can help accommodate this, as well. We will provide a piece of pre-cut masonite for $95 per sleeping platform or add extras slats for $95 per sleeping platform. You can request either of these options in the Special Instructions section during checkout.
-
Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on our beds. In fact, we recommend not using them, since they will just waste valuable headspace on loft beds and top bunks.
-
Do the beds come with mattresses?
None of our beds automatically ship with mattresses. We do sell our own custom made memory foam mattresses that you can buy with your bed as an accessory. They can also be ordered separately on our Mattress page. Click here to learn more and purchase a mattresses.

Accessories

The staircase is made out of 3/4” maple plywood.
-
What are the dimensions of the staircase?
The standard staircase size for beds built for rooms with an 8’ or 9’ ceiling height is 21” wide x 60” long x 48” high. Staircases for beds built for a 10’ ceiling height are the same width and length, but 60” high and have an extra step at the top. We can also make a special staircase for the twin and full size beds with 8’ and 9’ ceiling height that is 21” wide x 48” long x 48” high. There is no additional charge for ordering this staircase size, but you must specify your preference in the Notes section before you complete your order.
-
How much weight can the staircase hold?
The staircase has been tested to safely hold at least 500 LBS.
-
Can the staircase be placed and accessed anywhere around the bed?
The staircase is detached from the bed, so you can place it on any side of the bed based on the layout of your room. The cubby openings are open and accessible from both sides without limiting it’s functionality.
-
What are the available color options for the staircase?
Unless otherwise specified, the staircase will come painted to match the color of the bed that you order. If you’d prefer something else, we can paint them with any of our five standard finishes or stain them in one of seven different colors. Contact us to see the different color options and let us know your choice in the notes section during checkout.
-
Does the bookshelf stick out from the end of the bed?
No. The bookshelf will be flush with the end of the bed. Please note that if you order a loft bed with a bookshelf, we will build the bed to be 8” longer (the same size as our bunk beds) to support both a bookshelf and mattress.
-
How is the Upholstered Headboard constructed?
For our bunk and loft beds, the Upholstered Headboard is a 5” thick foam block. We upholster the outer layer with one of our 5 fabric options. When ordered standard, you’ll press the headboard between the wall and mattress. If there is no wall where you’ll place your bed, you will need to also order the Headboard Support Kit.
Please note that when you order an Adult Loft Bed with a headboard, we build the beds 8” longer like our Adult Bunk Beds. This ensures that both the headboard and mattress fit comfortably on the frame. This does make these loft beds considered “custom builds.”
The headboards for the bottom bunk of the L-Shaped Bunk Beds and Platform Beds are different. This is 3” foam block also upholstered in one of our 5 fabrics. These headboards come standard with a Headboard Support Kit no matter what.
-
Does the Platform Bed come with a headboard?
Yes. Platform Beds, Canopy Beds, and L-Shaped Bunk Beds all come with an Upholstered Headboard (bottom bunk only for L-Shaped Bunk Beds). You can choose from a number of different fabric options made up of various colors, textures, and patterns to find the one that best matches your style.
If you’re looking for a different style, you can upgrade to a Farmhouse Headboard for $155, or you can order your bed frame without a headboard for a price reduction of $300 off twin or full size beds, $500 off queen size beds, $700 off king size beds, or $900 off oversized beds.
-
Can I use both a trundle and drawers under my bed?
No. There is not enough space beneath the bed frames to fit both a mattress-sized trundle and drawers. We are not able to make custom-sized trundles or drawers at this time.
