The Story
After college, Ryan Francis moved to the big city ready to build a life for himself. He was drawn to the buzzing downtown district filled with people and activities, but quickly learned that $1,000+ a month for a studio apartment didn’t get him much. At 6’3” and 185 LBS, Ryan can always use some extra space, but with a queen bed in a small room, he was giving up a lot of comfort to live in his dream location. Then Ryan had the brilliant idea to get a loft bed to save space.
Ryan kept coming up frustratingly short in his search for a truly adult loft bed that could safely support him without making his apartment look like a kid’s bedroom. Rather than give up, he got creative and contacted his father, who has a lifetime of experience designing a variety of strong, durable, and aesthetically pleasing aluminum products. In fact, it’s kind of a family thing. Upon returning home after fighting in World War II, Ryan’s grandfather started an aluminum foundry and eventually bought a fabrication plant to enhance his business by constructing metal railings and columns for commercial clients. Ryan’s father, Patrick, would eventually run the fabrication plant and took the business to even greater heights.
Once Ryan reached out with his problem, Patrick enlisted his go-to engineer, Scott, to help create a bed that would be both stable and stylish. Within three weeks, the prototype Queen Loft Bed was standing in Ryan’s room. Over time, the trio would make slight adjustments to improve the bed’s functionality. Ryan was proud of their product and excited to show it to friends, who were so enthusiastic about it that he realized there were probably other people out there whose space issues could be solved with this specific piece of furniture. Continuing the family’s entrepreneurial legacy, Ryan and Patrick founded RPF Manufacturing Co, LLC (aka, Francis Lofts & Bunks). In less than two months, they had sold their first bed and were already hard at work on the prototype for a Queen Over Queen Bunk Bed.
Today, Francis Lofts & Bunks produces four different heavy duty metal beds that provide a dependable and comfortable sleep experience for adults of all shapes and sizes. As the business has grown, the commitment to creating superior products persists, which is why every bed is handcrafted to order based on each customer’s unique specifications.
