Does the Full Over Full Bunk Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring full size mattresses (also known as double size mattresses). For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Full Over Full Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed anywhere around the bunk bed. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your Full Over Full Bunk Bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. I purchased a full-over-full bunk bed for my teenage sons. I have no complaints about the customer service from Francis Lofts & Bunks, product delivery, or the quality of the material used to construct the bed; but I must admit to being disappointed with the final product. In short, the bed is far less stable than anticipated. The structure noticeably shakes when my 165 lb, 5' 10" son climbs into the top bunk, and both my sons claim the structure it too sensitive to casual movements in the top bunk (e.g. rolling over). Of note, my teenage daughters do not have this complaint re. their single-over-full from a different vendor. The disappointing thing is that my complaints were totally unexpected given the quality of the construction materials, and the anticipated strength of the structure was the reason I purchased the bed. I probably should've purchased the struts used in the loft bed or returned the product.

These bunk beds are bombproof and surprisingly light. I was transporting a 3-piece section of the frame over the San Francisco Bay Bridge, and the high winds blew it off the back of my truck. I was going nearly 60mph but the frame somehow stayed intact! The only bit that bent was the aluminum brackets that secured the sections together. Even the ladder stayed in one piece. Their amazing customer service kindly replaced the brackets for me, and now it's as good as new (save for a few scrapes). Francis Lofts and Bunks has restored my faith in American-made goods.
