No. The wooden slats support most innerspring twin size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Twin Over Twin Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed anywhere around the bunk bed. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your Twin Over Twin Bunk Bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. For $30, we can build a ladder that only extends 6” from the bed frame. You can request these custom ladder options in the Notes section during checkout.What are the dimensions of the staircase?

I ordered the King Over King Bunk Bed and needed it to arrive at a specific time as this was for a vacation home and I was going to be there for a week setting the place up. It arrived exactly on time which was great. Their assembly video made it very simple to setup, and it is well built and looks good. The bed did get some sway/movement on the top bunk as this was also the version for 10ft ceilings. I was planning on building a headboard for it, and once I did that and it was installed it was much more stable. I would recommend the pillow supports (optional accessories), as I think that would add the similar support that my headboard did. Other than that, very happy with it.
