Does the Queen Over King Bunk Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring queen and king-size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Queen Over King Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed on either short end of the bed frame. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your Queen Over King Bunk Bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. After years of sleeping on creaky and suspect Walmart bunk beds at the family beach house, it is a relief to know that this bunk can actually take weight on the top bunk safely. My only issue was with ordering the curtain. Despite emails to clarify, the holes were not in the correct spot. We can live without the curtain (so back it went), but a more clear process, perhaps including a diagram would be helpful to future customers.

Francis Lofts & Bunks are tight as hell and the most excellent bunk bed I’ve ever assembled & owned. I have mobility disability and was able to put together myself. (I only had myself for help, I would highly recommend 2-3 people if you have them available.) The bunks are tough, durable and don’t move lol. Make sure they’re where you want them before installing. I’d only recommend some baby type right angle padding for the edges. I purchased some from a 3rd party and they protect your noggin from the hard angles when you’re making the bed or getting up & down without thinking. Well worth the $ for a bunk that will last a lifetime. That was my plan. Thanks for the bunk!!!

Communication was as good as it gets. We had to move date of delivery and they didn’t skip a beat. Bunk was delivered in several boxes right to our front door thanks to UPS and directions for assembly were good. I did make one misstep in assembly that added 30 minutes but was my fault not realizing where the bed rail would go. Directions could be a little better but they were good enough. The bed is very solid and looks great. The quality and construction is unparalleled. I didn’t think it when I ordered it and I ordered it anyway, but it is well worth the money.
