  • Does the California King Bunk Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring California king-size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.

Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the California King Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.

How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed anywhere around the bunk bed. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.

How far does the ladder extend?
If your California King Bunk Bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. For $35, we can build a ladder that only extends 6” from the bed frame. You can request these custom ladder options in the Notes section during checkout.

What are the dimensions of the staircase?
We have two staircase options. A 4-step version for beds built for an 8 or 9 foot ceiling, and 5 steps for a 10 food ceiling. The dimensions of the different staircase options are:
    4 steps: 60” long x 21” wide x 48” high
    5 steps: 60” long x 21” wide x 60” high

How much weight can the staircase hold?
The staircase supports up to 500 lbs.

Can I get a shorter Side Rail for easier access?
We can build short Side Rails if you plan on putting your ladder or staircase on the “long side” of the bed frame. Click here to see an example. This is available for $75. Please request this option in the Notes section during checkout.

Can you build custom size bunk beds?
We can build bunk beds to any custom dimensions within reason. If the size that you’re looking for isn’t available on our website, you can contact us directly with your request. There is a customization fee of $75, plus $40 per foot.

Can I see physical samples of your materials and painted finishes?
Yes! Click here to leave us your name and shipping address, and we’ll send you free samples of every finish.

This bed is awesome! Heavy, sturdy, stylish. The only thing I wish was better is if it didn’t sway a little. But I guess that’s normal. We added some Costco contact shelf paper under each wooden slat to make each joint tighter.

We really enjoy the Queen Over King Bunk Beds we purchased. Jeffie was amazing from start-to-finish, even through some stumbling blocks with shipment. Assembly was fairly easy and the video tutorial was helpful, although there was nothing to help with the correct placement of the boards that go under the mattresses. We had wished there was weekend support to answer questions, but ultimately, the beds are great and guests love them.

We ordered 6 bunk beds, 4 queens and 2 twins, for nightly rentals. They arrived in perfect condition. They went together with a little effort. It did get easier with each one we put together. Instructions were good. They sent a wrong color on 1 piece and a replacement was quickly sent to us. We ordered 3 beds in one order and 3 several months later. There was a huge improvement with the ladders on the second order. They put a felt liner on the inside of the ladder hooks so it doesn't scratch the bar that holds the ladder up. All the beds on our first order have scratches where the ladder sits on the bar. These are not your typical bunk beds. They are very sturdy and sleep adults very comfortably. We have received many compliments from our guests.

Everything was great, the service, correct timing, but when the bed came, 2 boards were warped and it made our life very difficult for 2 hours. Had they not been it would have been straight forward, but in the meantime, holding the frame up, we needed to quickly borrow a shaver from a neighbor on a Sunday (thank god) and have our in-laws hold the bed standing for an hour! We had no other place to sleep that night since we sold the other bed that day. Frankly, it was stressful.

We customer ordered this bunk with a matching trundle. Added the book shelves for both top and bottom. Added the removable ladder and the side rail for safety on top. This bed is definitely sturdy. However, the trundle slats were not cut correctly. We had different sizes and had to have a carpenter come cut them for us. We’ve had to move this twice. It’s not easy at all. It takes 4 people to put up and take down. Unfortunately it also scratches very easily. I had to purchase a filler for the paint to cover our scratches. I also had to buy more screws from FL&B when we moved it. The screws were not reusable. We’ve had adults on top and bottom and all felt very comfortable!! Sturdy isn’t an issue. However, I’d suggest 2 side rails so you can move bed wherever unless it won’t ever move from its space. We love the bookshelves, but they are bending away from bed. The wall supported them when the bed was against it. However, I feel like they need to have a bracket of some sort to keep them in place. I’d definitely purchase a bunk again but I’d be a little specific on extra support.

I like the bunk beds and they are more sturdy than the industry norm. Unfortunately, one of the predrilled holes doesn’t quite line up and therefore I wasn’t able to get the bolt screwed all the way in. The bed does rock a little from side to side, possibly as a result of this. But overall stable and I’m pleased. I was able to assemble the entire bunk bed with no assistance, so assembly wasn’t too challenging.
