No. The wooden slats support most innerspring extra-long full-size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Full XL Over Full XL Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?

Having the extra beds is great at the holidays, plenty of room for the kids and grand kids!! The third set we just got we put in the back cabin at our lake home. A lot more room for guests and friends of the kids when they come to visit for the weekend. Really look nice there as well. I would recommend you to anyone without hesitation
