Does the California King Loft Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring California king size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the California King Loft Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.Are the x-braces required on the loft bed frame?
Yes. The x-braces are what make the California King Loft Bed stable and safe for adult use.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed anywhere around the loft bed. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your loft bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. We got a custom loft, five inches higher than usual to give us headroom to stand and walk under it. Nonetheless, it is rock solid. There is none of the wiggling and slamming against the wall that free-standing wooden lofts are subject to. The only caveats that I could mention are that I might have chosen to round the corners on the top of the ladder to provide a more pleasant experience climbing in and out of bed, and you really do need to have a thick enough mattress as recommended since the slats are widely spaced in the standard bed. Oh, and UPS in NYC does not have their act together. We did get prompt and full support from Francis Lofts & Bunks through that little saga.
