Does the California King Loft Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring California king size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the California King Loft Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.Are the x-braces required on the loft bed frame?
Yes. The x-braces are what make the California King Loft Bed stable and safe for adult use.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed anywhere around the loft bed. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your loft bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. I was dubious that I could put a Sleep Number mattress five feet off the ground and put my adult self in it, but this bed is unbelievably sturdy. Not only that, but I was able to take it apart and put it back together multiple times. It's not only easy to assemble and disassemble, but due to the construction method, there is no loss in structural stability if you need to move it. I highly recommend if you are putting anyone other than a small child in the "upstairs" of either a loft or bunk bed. Also, the bookshelf stairs are amazing. They are a furniture piece in their own right that could be used even if you for whatever reason no longer needed the bed.

I would have not caught it, but they did the right thing. We received our loft bed and stairs faster than they estimated which was great. The video instructions on the website are good and very helpful. My son and I got his bed/stairs put together in about 5 hours, but this included box breakdown and clean up. The Adult Loft Bed exceeded my expectations and is worth the high cost. It's rock solid, meaning it doesn't squeak or wobble with my movements on the bed. I bought the staircase in lieu of the ladder and also love that purchase because it's so much easier to get up and down the loft bed. I expect the bed and staircase to last longer than an earlier wooden loft bed I bought for my son. As for shipping, it arrived on schedule. A part of the staircase was damaged (one inside surface had a long deep scratch) and looked like a prong of a forklift poked into the box rather than slide under to lift it. Fortunately, it was fixable with wood spackle and paint, and the company got me the materials and a nominal rebate for the damage. I love this bed. I have a small room in the house I share with other roommates, and this allowed me to have my full work setup underneath and not feel crowded. I'm afraid of heights but the stairs make it so easy to get up and down, it has never been an issue. I share the bed sometimes with my friend and it still holds up well and never shakes when when getting into it or shifting through out the night. Even changing the bedding is simple with the stairs! The only issue was building it. It's very heavy, and I don't think I could have built it without my stronger friend doing most of the work. We had to take it apart a few times when we missed accessories and the different steps we needed to add them. This led to the paint scraping off in a few areas. I am not looking forward to having to take it apart and rebuild it when I move. But, if you have the right people helping and are careful, I don't see this being much of an issue. Even with all these problems we still managed to build it in a day after all. Overall this is a solid, thoughtfully designed bed that is worth the price; even the added price of shipping it to Canada.
