Does the California King Loft Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring California king size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the California King Loft Bed. In fact, we recommend not using on to avoid wasting valuable headspace.Are the x-braces required on the loft bed frame?
Yes. The x-braces are what make the California King Loft Bed stable and safe for adult use.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed anywhere around the loft bed. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your loft bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. I had done a ton of research and looked at a lot of different options before buying my California King loft. And though this is a pricey purchase, I'm exceedingly happy with the result. The loft has completely transformed my little apartment, and I created a perfect office space underneath. As promised, it is extremely sturdy, well built, and looks great. I had no problem assembling it with a friend and the online instructional video was easy to follow. I'd say it took about three to four hours to set up. I do have a couple of issues: 1) The "tacks" they sent to attach the cloth to cover the slats were basically nails and I found them unusable. That was an easy fix using a staple gun instead. 2) The biggest issue for me was the ladder. I wavered on whether to spend the extra money on the stairs...I wish I had. Though again the ladder was very sturdy and easy to assemble, I found it extremely awkward to climb down. After a few days of trying to make it work, I bought a six-foot step ladder that matched the color of the loft. I used heavy-duty zip ties to attach it to the foot of the loft. So now instead of having to climb down backwards, I can step down which feels much safer and less awkward. If I were buying the loft again, I would spend the extra money for the stairs instead of the ladder. But overall, absolutely 5 stars. Terrific product, highly recommended.

What a wonderful experience ordering from Francis Lofts & Bunks. Jeffie was awesome going over what I would need, dimensions and advice on arrangement. I did pay extra to get them shipped quickly as I needed them during the holidays. I bought 2 Cal King Lofts and put my existing beds under them. One was a eastern king and the other a cal king with cal kings on top. They came in 6 or 7 sturdy boxes. My son-in-law put one bed together in a couple of hours. They are so sturdy and strong. Definitely can hold a large adult. No shakiness at all. We got the black color and they look very modern. We put them in regular sized bedrooms at our ski condo in Tahoe. I told our realtor about them and he has been spreading the word to new clients. They are pricey, but well worth the price. Thank you to all that made such a quality product.

The bed is nice an heavy. High quality. No worries if you wanted to do things that entertain adults. I recommend the bed for rooms with high ceilings though especially if you are tall. If you are short like me with lower ceilings then it is okay. I will definitely buy another bed in the future when I move. That said, the down side is that this bed would be a nightmare to take apart, move, and put it back together.
