No. The wooden slats support most innerspring mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Adult Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?

I did not realize that the headboards were an option. Secondly, the bed wobbles. I would think with the sturdy frame and number of bolts, that it would be sturdier. We also bought a Twin XL Bunk Bed. These are great for adults and kids. They are made of solid material. The reason for the 4 star review was that when someone laying in the other bunk moves, the beds shake and do not feel as sturdy as I would hope for the cost and material. I wonder if there’s additional options for stabilizing the bed against the wall so that it is not so unstable when people move or climb into the bed? Also, the assembly is the pits. I really wish the company would provide assembly help options, even if it were for a price, I would buy it! We missed inserting one of the shelves and in order to put it on, we need to disassemble the entire bunk which is incredibly tedious. At this price point of furniture, assembly help really should be offered. Thanks!

We ordered 6 bunk beds, 4 queens and 2 twins, for nightly rentals. They arrived in perfect condition. They went together with a little effort. It did get easier with each one we put together. Instructions were good. They sent a wrong color on 1 piece and a replacement was quickly sent to us. We ordered 3 beds in one order and 3 several months later. There was a huge improvement with the ladders on the second order. They put a felt liner on the inside of the ladder hooks so it doesn't scratch the bar that holds the ladder up. All the beds on our first order have scratches where the ladder sits on the bar. These are not your typical bunk beds. They are very sturdy and sleep adults very comfortably. We have received many compliments from our guests.
