No. The wooden slats support most innerspring mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?

Amazing bunk beds! They enable us to sleep all 6 of our grown adult children and 7 grandkids in three bedrooms without having to add another bedroom. Heavy duty construction makes everyone feel safe on them. We put a trundle under one of them and now can comfortably sleep 6 people in a moderately sized bedroom. Easy to put together. You need two people, but just to help hold sides up as you are putting them together. I highly recommend these bunk beds.

The Queen Over Queen Adult Bunk Bed in white is just beautiful. We love it. The quality is amazing. The only issues was the $400 white glove delivery and sit up was very bad. The two delivery men worked on figuring out how to put it together for an 1 1/2 hrs, they had the packing and hardware strewn all over, my husband had to coordinate and help put it together.
