No. The wooden slats support most innerspring mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Adult Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?

Solid to the core and they look great. The fundamentals of assembly was simple, but the instructions were outdated and could do with improvement in a few places. A packing list would have been helpful (products need a user forum with real life assembly experiences and to connect customers....customer support was prompt, but largely uninformed/unexperienced in assembly). The Queen Over Queen Adult Bunk Bed in white is just beautiful. We love it. The quality is amazing. The only issues was the $400 white glove delivery and sit up was very bad. The two delivery men worked on figuring out how to put it together for an 1 1/2 hrs, they had the packing and hardware strewn all over, my husband had to coordinate and help put it together. The material of the beds are very nice! The exterior does leave scratch marks that are difficult to remove. The best thing about the beds are the slats. When trying out the beds, we felt very secure and safe, and that they will withstand varying weights. Because they are metal, the beds do wobble. I loved the amount of customizable options when purchasing the beds, from the ceiling height, to add ons. I do think the website should allow for quantities of a bed, instead of having to manually enter multiple of the same beds into the cart.
