Does the Full XL Over Queen Bunk Bed require a special type of mattress?
No. The wooden slats support most innerspring queen and extra-long full-size mattresses. For a memory foam mattress, you will need a solid surface to keep it from sinking. If you plan to use a memory foam mattress, you can add a 1/8” thick masonite board or extra slats to your order. These options are available in the Accessories tab above.Will I need a box spring?
Box springs are not necessary on the Full XL Over Queen Bunk Bed. In fact, we recommend not using one to avoid wasting valuable headspace.How is the ladder attached to the bed frame?
The standard ladder is detachable and can be placed on either short end of the bed frame. It securely clips to the aluminum frame and will not move when it’s in use.How far does the ladder extend?
If your Full XL Over Queen Bunk Bed is built for a 9’ ceiling, the ladder extends 20” from the end of the bed. We also make a version that only extends 13” from the bed at no cost. This is the nicest and sturdiest bunk bed I have ever seen. All the parts were well packed and arrived without damage. The quality of construction is excellent and the parts fit together perfectly. Although it is recommended to have two people, I was able to put the bunk bed together by myself without trouble. None of the individual pieces were too heavy, but you do need some space to lay out and maneuver the parts into position. Also purchased the optional mattresses and they are very comfortable. It is a very solid and arguably attractive bed, and I am happy to have purchased it.

Queen Over Queen and Full Over Queen with stairs between. Looks awesome and quite sturdy - not as 100% wobble-free as hoped - but very secure and expected to be incredibly durable. Dearly hope I never have to replace carpet in the room as it all weighs close to 1,000 lb combined shipping weight. Everything was very well packed and delivered with zero damage. Included everything needed - even a hammer for the tacks. Instructions and videos were great. A 65-year-old CPA assembled it all with just a tiny bit of assistance from his wife. Took my time - one day to unpack and stage all of the pieces, one day for 1st bunk, and one day for 2nd bunk and stairs (not all day on any day - 3-4 hours a day). Costs literally thousands less than having custom built locally from wood.

Bed is delivered on a pallet and there were around 11 cartons and they are heavy, so be sure you have a hand truck or some strong help to unload the pallet. The written instructions weren’t as detailed as I would have liked but they have a YouTube video instruction that is great. Simple to assemble and love that there is just one size screws and washers and a supplied Allen wrench and hammer to assemble. We made a few missteps that were easily corrected but in all not hard to assemble but does take 2 people. Buy their mattresses, they are wonderful! This bunk is so solid it was well worth the higher price and love that is made in USA!
